Pete Loftis

Football
Class Year: 1970
Induction Year: 2023

OPSU football has produced many standout athletes over the years, but few have made as big of an impact as Pete Loftis. As we prepare to induct Loftis into the OPSU Hall of Fame, it's important to recognize the incredible contributions he made to our football program during his time here.

Loftis joined the team as a freshman in 1966, and it quickly became clear that he was a special talent. He was named Aggie Football Freshman of the Year. Everybody then knew that he had a bright future ahead of him. The following year, he continued to impress, earning the team's MVP award, All-Conference Honorable Mention honors, and the Texhoma Fighting Heart Award.

Over the course of his junior and senior years, Loftis continued to excel, earning Second Team All-Conference honors both years and serving as team captain during his senior year. But even as his individual accolades piled up, Loftis remained focused on the team, as he stated upon his induction, "I just loved going to college and playing football. I don't like to talk about all the awards and stats, it was always about the team for me. My teammates are the reason I had success. I always had the mindset of being quiet and just doing my job."

In addition to his on-field success, Loftis also made a contribution to the team as a student-assistant coach for defensive backs and scouting during his final year at OPSU. His dedication to the program both on and off the field made him a beloved figure among his teammates and coaches alike.

Looking back on his career, it's clear that Pete Loftis was one of the most talented and dedicated football players to ever come through OPSU. As we honor him with a well-deserved place in the OPSU Hall of Fame, we're reminded of the incredible impact he had on our football program and the many great memories he helped create for our community.
